It's a Wrap!

This semester was more challenging than I expected. At the beginning of the semester, I did more research on my chosen topic from last semester, which produced interesting data points that was beneficial to my chosen deliverables for the remainder of the thesis project. It also helped to refine my target audience, which was a drastic change. Initially it was for parents with kids ages 1-5, but now it has been specified to parents with boys ages 3-6 years. Through the data points, the biggest takeaway is that there is a big difference in parents encouraging versus believing in gender-neutral play.

My biggest hurdle was sorting through the data points. I'm not very good at analyzing data and calculating everything, so that was tough. Also, I feel like I should have phrased my questions more specifically and not have too many open-ended questions because that altered a lot of the data points that I needed.

My biggest accomplishment this semester is learning Adobe Premiere Pro in less than 4 hours. Initially I had a friend help me with my video, but he wasn't available for the last 2 weeks of revisions. Therefore, I learned the program and was able to produce the final 2 cuts for my video. I am happy with the outcome, and I am proud of myself for learning the program in such a short amount of time.

Throughout the semester, feedback and critiqued ranged from editing my logo and visual system to refining my slides for my video. I implemented the suggested changes and streamlined the logo and visual system, refined my materials matrix, timeline and DS chart to reflect those changes. Also, to break up the monotony of the stock images in my video, I added slides with patterns and type and a duotone to some of the photos.

My audience, who have been introduced to the topic and have seen the video are interested in what I create/design for the project. The topic intrigues them as it makes them question themselves on their own perspective of how children play.

As the semester closes and I look back on everything I have created, I am proud of the time, effort, and late nights I have put into this class. The results have drastically changed over the weeks, and it has been definitely worth it! Onto the next…!
